Lipsticks Questions and AnswersIs there lead in most lipsticks? I got a scary email suggesting there was.?Q) I got an email saying the way to test whether there was lead in lipstick was to rub a gold ring over a smear of lipstick on the back of your hand. If it turned black, this was caused by the lead in the lipstick. To my horror almost all of my lipsticks turned black when I did this. Lead can cause cancer so it is frightening. I have checked the ingredients on the boxes and there is no mention of lead. Is there something else in the lipstick that turns it black when you rub gold on it?
A) This is a hoax! Check out the link.do those lipsticks that claim to plump up your lips really work ?A) no they do not, you just have to have plump lipswhat colour eyeshadows and lipsticks would you recommend for me?Q) i have dark brown curly hair, fair skin with rosy cheeks and green eyes with little orangey bits... i really cant seem to get it right!
PLEASE HELP ME!!!
A) You should try using plum shades of eyeshadow. That is the best color to use if you have green eyes. You can try some sandy brown shades or colors that have gold tones too. As for cheeks, you should stay away from shades of bright pink. Try using peaches or more "natural" colors. Lipsticks & glosses should follow the same rule, no bright pink. Think more natural colors. There is a brand of cosmetics (I think it's Almay but I'm not positive) who has come out with a new line of make-up for each eye color & skin tone. Also, if you go to the Mary Kay website, there is a "virtual makeover" (it's under the "what's new" tab) and you can select the model who has the same skin tone as you and apply eye color, blush, & lip colors to see how they work with your skin. I use their cosmetics and have been very happy with them. (plus my mom sells them so I get a discount) A lot of my friends use Mary Kay also and they have been equally satisified. If you are interested, you can search on their website for someone in your area that sells it and they can meet with you and discuss what colors would be best for you. A) It is unreliable, at best. The format of the email is basically the same as phony emails telling you you've won some prize from someplace even though you never entered a contest.
So, lipstick may indeed contain lead, but this unsolicited email is probably not to be trusted.
Check the Wikipedia entry on lipstick... if there's ever a controversy about the subject, Wikipedia will probably let people know about it. Also, check the other site.
It's not impossible that some lipstick does, did, or will contain lead. After all, many things that we use on a daily basis probably cause cancer. But these things have not been proven, and in particular, this assertion about lipstick is unfounded.
Man, I never thought I would write so much about lipstick...
God bless.Glitter lipstick?Q) Do you know of any lipsticks with glitter in them?
I saw someone wearing one the other day and should of asked her what it was, it was really nice.

WOMEN! DID YOU KNOW that the lipsticks you may love to use are full of lead? How can our FDA allow this?Q) What do all these have in common?
THEY ALL CONTAIN LEAD!
Lead is a chemical which causes cancer.
The lipstick brands that contain lead are:
CHRISTIAN DIOR
LANCOME
CLINIQUE
Y.S.L
ESTEE LAUDER
SHISEIDO
RED EARTH (Lip Gloss)
CHANEL (Lip Conditioner)
MARKET AMERICA-MOTNES LIPSTICK.
; The higher the lead content,
the greater the chance of causing cancer.
After doing a test on lipsticks,
it was found that the Y.S.L. lipstick
contained the most amount of lead.
Watch out for those lipsticks
which are supposed to stay longer.
If your lipstick stays longer, it is
because of the higher content of lead.
Here is the test you can do yourself:
1. Put some lipstick on your hand.
2. Use a Gold ring to scratch on the lipstick.3. If the lipstick colour changes to black, then you know the lipstick contains lead. Please send this information to all your girlfriends, women you know.
If YOU DOn't Believe it: Go check for yourself!
**LADIES; Do The TESt. Put The Lipstick on your wrist and rub it with your gold ring. Then, you'll understand the reason the cartoon men here are dissing this info.

"Dangerous Levels of Lead In Lipstick , Lip Gloss?"
Randy Paige
I found this article and several more that talk in depth about the lipsticks with lead. I believe that these companies keep the lead under the required amount accepted by your FDA regulations, but I have background, and my mates and I tries it out, and found lipsticks do have lead in them. Struth.
So, you 're shooting your mouth off in your answers here, about something that could be important.
Appreciate the heads up. A) Lipstick and other cosmetics are made out of whale fat.skin allergic to lipsticks.. HELP!!?Q) ok... my skin around my mouth is allergic to many kinds of lipsticks... It would start to feel itchy, then skin came off, the reaction ususally lasts for two weeks before my skin is healed. My question is.. anyone got this kind of problem before? what to do about it? I have tried MAC, Estee Lauder, Biothem, elizabeth arden, and lancom...... I am only 28 years old...
A) First, you need to find out what you are allergic to. Go to the dermatologist with the culprit lipstick ingredients. If you can pinpoint what you're allergic to, it will make your life much more easier in choosing lipstick. And if you think about it, if the product you're allergic to is in other cosmetics, you will be saving yourself an even bigger reaction in the long run. If you don't have the ingredients on the package go to the web site of the product and search for it there. If they don't have the info online, email them and tell them what happened. They should be more than willing to provide the info you need. I have seen more and more women lately having the same problem and more often than not, it is with the "high end dept. store" makeups. You may want to try the Almay or Physician's Formula products. Is it save to leave traces of lipsticks on the lips after many hours?Q) usually at the end of the day, I find the lipstick starts to fade and only left traces of it on the lips. And I do forget to wipe it off sometimes when I come home from work , even dozed off to sleep when too tired. Which product do you use for removing your traces of lipsticks....any good and nice fragrant ones../
A) Yeah, it's safe to leave some on.. it never did me any harm.. lol
Although I have to remember to wipe it off before I get home if it's somebody else's lipstick.. :D
Ahem.. of course it's better for your skin if you remove it. Petroleum jelly or baby oil will be perfect with a damp facecloth to remove it.what ingredients are used in lipsticks?Q) which lipsticks contain whale fat and not pig fat.
A) When I was a little girl, to keep me out of her lipstick, my mother told me that it was made with frog snot. The woman actually ate frog legs. So, I naturally believed her about the frog snot. I didn't let my mother put her lips on me again until I was old enough to read the ingredients for myself.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CosmeticsCertain lipsticks are said to contain certain carcinogens such as lead, what is the simplest way to test them?Q) I have received an email that warns me of lipsticks that contained lead, a substance that causes cancer. I use none of them but how can I be sure that my brand has no lead? Is there a simple test that I can do to check if my brand has no lead?
A) I wouldn't worry about it, its just an urban myth that keeps getting passed around. Pigments that are used in lipsticks and other cosmetics are regulated by the FDA. The toxicity of lead is such common knowledge at this point that any cosmetic product with a significant amount of lead in it would not be allowed on the market.
Every time a cosmetic manufacturer prepares a batch of lipstick or any other product, they are required to send a sample to the FDA for certification. This certification means that the FDA has exhaustively tested the product and it would not contain unsafe levels of any known toxin such as lead. Check out the source page that I listed below if you want some more information, they give a pretty thorough explanation and a some info on lead poisoning.Number of lipsticks and mascara sold pr. year?Q) Can somebody help me to find information on how many lipsticks and mascara are sold pr. year? Preferably estimates or numbers worldwide or the USA.
I have searched the web, but I get only the numbers for total sales in dollars, what I am interested in is the number of units.
A) You won't be able to find a total number, but you should be able to get a brand number if you ask companies like P&Gcolor stay on lipsticks?Q) what is one of the best kind of color stay lipsticks?
A) Do you mean color? Or type? There are two types, Soft & Smooth and Overtime. Overtime is a gloss, Soft & Smooth is a stick.
Here is a color chart for Soft & Smooth:
http://www.revlon.com/product.asp?ProductID=29313&Mode=brand
...and one for Overtime:
http://www.revlon.com/product.asp?ProductID=24276&Mode=brand
I'm not a fan of long-wear lipsticks. They flake, look splotchy, and can be too dry or matte. But of all the ones I've tried, Revlon's Colorstay is my favorite. Is it a good idea to melt old lipsticks with vaseline to make it last longer?Q) I have lipsticks that I have had for a few years. I don't wear it everyday.
A) Old lipsticks can become contaminated with bacteria even just setting around in a drawer. It's not a good idea to use any lipstick over two years old or to melt it and mix it with petroleum jelly. Heating alters the chemical compound and could change the color dramatically. It's true that heat destroys bacteria;but, why chance it and why go to all the trouble? There are plenty of rather inexpensive lipsticks around, I'm sure you can find a similar color even if yours has been discontinued.
